Letter: In wake of their foiled, expensive land grab attempt, Utah’s leaders owe taxpayers an itemized receipt

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) People gather on the steps of the Utah Capitol during a rally, organized by Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance, in support of protecting public lands on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025.

Now that the U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear the Utah land grab case, the governor’s office, the attorney general as well as the state Legislature owe the taxpayers of Utah a complete, detailed accounting of the funds they have thrown away in attempting the ridiculous effort to steal our public lands from their rightful owners, the citizens of the United States.

It would be interesting to know how much was paid to large, outside law firms, since none of the hundreds of lawyers on the state payroll are considered competent to handle such cases. Assuming they don’t give up this greedy pursuit, an ongoing accounting of the costs should be published regularly in the media, including the costs of their misleading marketing efforts to sell the idea to the public.
