Letter: One former LDS stake president said what needed to be said about Trump. Will other LDS leaders step forward?

(Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune) Moroni atop the Layton LDS temple on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023.

LDS religion aligns with an unofficial (official) political party.

So it was refreshing and life-giving to me to hear the words of a man in a position of authority in our church recognize and speak out about the amorality of Donald Trump.

David Cook, a former stake president, said:

“One of the most sacred trusts we have is fidelity to our spouse … I have little to no respect for the serial philanderer who repeatedly violates that sacred trust.”

I have yet to hear any other leaders, people who have a responsibility, step forward as David Cook did and speak about the hypocrisy in our church.

So many of our neighbors supported a candidate who in no way exemplifies the 13th Article of Faith, our belief to seek after things virtuous, lovely or of good report or praiseworthy.
