Letter: Yes, “fathers of women” — among others — should support a woman’s right to make her own health care choices

(Doug Mills | The New York Times) Former President Donald Trump speaks as Vice President Kamala Harris looks on during the presidential debate at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024.

Shortly after the presidential debate, I heard a meme that encouraged women and “fathers of women” to come together to support a woman’s right to make health care choices for herself.

I loved the “fathers of women” clause because that includes me! I have two wonderful women who call me dad. I am proud to be included. As I write this, it occurs to me that more men should also be included: grandfathers, brothers, uncles, cousins, friends, teachers, etc.

In short, I believe that everyone should recognize that making decisions about personal health care is a right and a privilege.

The notion that these decisions are subject to federal or state government approval is as bogus as a $3 bill.
