Letter: Worried about a president’s age and mental competency? Just listen to Trump.

(John Locher | AP) A cowboy hat appears in the foreground as Republican presidential candidate former President Donald Trump speaks at a campaign event Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, in Las Vegas.

Critics of President Joe Biden’s mental acuity at age 80 claim Donald Trump is a better choice for president even though he is only four years younger. The truth is Donald Trump’s mental ability is nothing to rave about.

At a rally in Buffalo, New York in 2016, he confused the date of the al-Qaeda attack on the World Trade Center on 9/11 as happening on 7/11, the name of the retail chain.

During a speech in New Hampshire, he said Victor Orban was the leader of Turkey. He’s the leader of Hungary. He said Orban’s country bordered Russia when neither Turkey nor Hungary do. He exclaimed Biden would get the U.S. into World War II instead of III.

Trump asked Hungary leader Orban’s opinion about the current U.S. president — referring to him as Obama. Biden was the president. He has continually referred to Obama when he meant Biden. He got Hillary Clinton mixed up with Obama. He referred to Nikki Halley as Nancy Pelosi.

He has claimed going to the grocery store to buy bread requires presenting photo identification, and whales wash up on shore due to the wind.

He mistakenly referred to Sioux City, Iowa, as Sioux Falls, and Dayton, Ohio, as Toledo. He mistakenly identified an easily identifiable picture of E. Jean Carrol with his former wife, Marla Maples, while stating she wasn’t his type.

Trump has a continuing problem of mispronouncing and slurring his words such a “oranges,” “Nasta,” “overdoth,” “privit,” “diversary,” “anomous,” “United Statesch,” “Ulucious Grant,” instead of origins, NAFTA, overdose, prison, diversity, anonymous, United States, and Ulysses Grant.

The list goes on, but the point should be clear. If voters are worried about age and mental competency, they might be concerned more about the candidate four years younger.
