Letter: Before you vote, watch “20 Days in Mariupol,” and think about Trump’s admiration of Putin

(Evgeniy Maloletka | Sundance Institute) First responders help an injured woman in director Mstyslav Chernov's documentary from Ukraine, "20 Days in Mariupol," an official selection of the World Documentary Competition at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival.

I admit, I am one of many in our country that go on hearing about the tragic war in Ukraine — currently 40,000 killed or injured. I’d see pictures on the news, then go on to new shootings in our country, thinking how tragic that we can’t just get along.

But nothing impacted me to tears like the documentary “20 Days in Mariupol.”

It is impossible to describe what was, and is happening in that city alone. Especially seeing dying children and babies, thinking, “are these a threat to Vladimir Putin?”

It is understandable why Putin so desperately wanted to suppress this video. It took great courage to get it out. Vladimir stated, “We are not going to impose anything on anyone by force. Our actions are self defense.”

In light of Donald Trump’s admiration of the way Putin runs his country, and any dissension, we may wonder how a Trump administration will be.

Before you vote this year, please watch this documentary. Then choose wisely.
