Letter: Many species need Great Salt Lake for their survival. I highlighted one for each day of the Utah legislative session.

(Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune) Bison at Antelope Island State Park, on Saturday, April 25, 2020.

When most people in Utah are asked what birds and animals need our Great Salt Lake to survive, most of them will state the seagulls, bison and ducks.

I am a local wildlife photographer and on social media I have started posting 45 species that need GSL for their survival — for the 45 days the Utah Legislature is in session.

When I first started this project, I was asked if I would be able to even find 45 animals and birds. This made me laugh because my dilemma has been which animals to leave in and which ones to leave out.

I’m hoping that through displaying these animals with their names, it might put a bit more light on how important our Great Salt Lake is not only to us, but to those who cannot speak up for change.

If space allows, I’m hoping you can do a spread of these 45 species to help create this awareness.
