As a 30-plus-year resident of Utah, I’m accustomed to doublespeak from Utah’s religious leaders and politicians. A recent example of this is reflected in state efforts to address the shortage of mental health providers. According to The Tribune, “state officials are proposing loosening licensing requirements, which … will allow more people to become mental health workers. The more qualified therapists and behavioral health workers we have in Utah … the better chance people will have access to that critical mental health help.”
How will reducing licensing requirements lead to more qualified therapists? This makes absolutely no sense.
