Letter: If you enjoy theater, give the Grand or other local community theaters a try

The recent article listing upcoming productions by Salt Lake City’s performing arts groups (“Here’s what Utah’s major performing arts groups are doing this winter and spring”) was true in being a “thumbnail guide” in including select major companies. Although it’s great to promote these groups and their amazing productions, there are many smaller performing arts organizations throughout the valley that are equally wonderful.

One in particular is The Grand Theatre, located on the Salt Lake City Community College South Campus. Their performance of “Harvey” last season was one of the best and most enjoyable performances I attended all year, and that includes several Broadway shows in New York City.

Their upcoming winter and spring performances include “Fate?,” (Feb. 8 - March 2), a world premiere production written by Utah’s own Perry Fine and Nick Dunn with lyrics and music by Fine and the Original Blue Healers, respectively; as well as the classics, “Arsenic and Old Lace” (March 21 - April 6) and “Pride and Prejudice” (May 16 - June 8).

If you enjoy theater, give the Grand or other local community theaters a try. Utah is teeming with impressive artistic talent which those on any budget will enjoy.
