Letter: I am sick and tired of the misogyny and patriarchy of the LDS Church

(Leah Hogsten | The Salt Lake Tribune) Members of the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, from left, Dallin H. Oaks, Russell M. Nelson and Henry B. Eyring lead the spring General Conference Saturday, April 1, 2023.

Thank you for publishing the referenced article, “A slap in the face,” in The Tribune.

As a long-time Utah resident, I am sick and tired of the misogyny/patriarchy of the LDS Church. It is offensive conduct that should not be tolerated by an enlightened citizenry.

Equal rights and respect for women is a concept enshrined in our Constitution and fundamental to our form of government. State action notwithstanding, as a society we should have zero tolerance of such conduct by an operating church or any other organization.

As far as I am aware, there is no religious exemption to compliance with constitutional standards of behavior and no de facto exception should be allowed.

As a community, I must believe we are better than this.
