Letter: Mike Lee’s attempt to excuse Donald Trump and the rioters on Jan. 6 makes no sense

(Kenny Holston | The New York Times) Video of President Donald Trump addressing many of the supporters who went on to storm the Capitol plays during the first public hearing of the House January 6th committee, on Capitol Hill in Washington on Thursday, June 9, 2022.

If a gang of thugs is robbing a bank and there are innocent customers filling out deposit slips, making withdrawals, and doing other ordinary tasks, does their presence excuse the robbers? No. No even.

If there are two dogs in your living room and one is sleeping peacefully in his bed and the other is pooping on the floor, does the presence of the sleeping dog excuse the pooping on? No. Not even.

If Nancy Pelosi can say poo-poo in the House of Representatives, I should be able to write it in a letter.

These two obvious examples clearly show that Mike Lee’s attempt to excuse Donald Trump and the rioters on Jan. 6 makes no sense.

He has complained that the January 6 committee ignored the scenes of peaceful “visitors” on the day of the riot.

Well, Mike, when you are investigating suspected crimes, you look for the evidence. In this case, it is not hard to find. There are videos — videos! — and audio.

Some advice for Mike Lee from an 80-year-old grandmother who can still tell truth from lies, fact from fiction, and reality from fantasy: Stop twisting yourself in knots, Mike, and come clean on what really happened that day. It wouldn’t hurt to take a good, hard look at the reality of who and what Donald Trump is, either.
