Letter: Lee’s thoughts on housing crisis bring to mind a kindred declaration by a Utah politician of yore

Is Mike Lee trying to “out stupid” Burgess Owens? His inane suggestion that BLM land should be opened up to solve the unaffordable housing crisis reminds me of the keynote speaker for my graduation from Weber College in 1973. Ernest L. Wilkinson lambasted the Zero Population Growth movement and declared that the entire population of China could reside in Utah, conveniently ignoring the need for water, food, infrastructure and housing in our desert.

If only our voters today would wise up. Ernest L Wilkinson lost his Senate race against Democrat Frank Moss in 1964.
