Letter: Mental competence, not age, is the crucial factor if the election comes down to Biden vs. Trump

Age should be a nonfactor if the 2024 presidential election comes down to voting for Joe Biden or Donald Trump. They’ll both be close to the same age.

Instead, mental competence might more appropriately be a deciding factor.

According to the Society for the Study of Psychopathy, the traits of a psychopath are: (1) Lack of guilt and empathy, (2) lack of close, emotional bonds with others, (3) narcissism, (4) superficial charm, (5) manipulativeness, (6) dishonesty (i.e., lying) and (7) reckless risk-taking.

Trump has exhibited all 7 traits time and time again.

One of the numerous experts who have studied Trump is Lance Dodes, M.D., and supervising analyst emeritus at the Boston Psychoanalytic Society Institute.

He summarized his disturbing findings as follows:

“Donald Trump’s speech and behavior show that he has severe sociopathic traits. The significance of this cannot be overstated. While there have surely been American presidents who could be said to be narcissistic, none have shown sociopathic qualities to the degree seen with Mr. Trump. Correspondingly, none have been so definitively and so obviously dangerous.”
