Letter: Let us Republicans be resolute in our support for Ukraine

I have been a Republican since my college days, having grown up under the imminent threats of the Cold War, and am writing to express my disappointment with the GOP’s isolationist response to the war in Ukraine.

Since Trump took office in 2016, the admiration for personal power grew. This newfound ideology is antithetical to the values and beliefs of the GOP. This is the party of Ronald Reagan, who believed in global democracy and peace.

Now, more than ever, it is critical that all Republicans support Ukraine. If Russia is to prevail in Ukraine, it may target other countries, including America’s NATO allies, next. If you fear that deterring Russia will cause a wider war, I can assure you that the opposite is true. Letting Russia win is more likely to lead to escalation. Deterrence is strength.

Let us Republicans be resolute in our support for Ukraine, for our own sake and for global stability.
