Some of my friends and neighbors send their children to Rowland Hall and the Waterford School. They are happy with their decision and feel both are wonderful schools. And therefore they are willing to pay between $22,000 to $29,000 per year in tuition.
The Utah Legislature — per HB215 — now wants all of us, as taxpayers, to be responsible for their decision by making us pay them $8,000 for their tuition.
We paid for one of our sons to attend The McGillis School and Judge Memorial school. The other son attended public school. Both of these were our decisions and we paid the full tuition because of our decision. We did not go to our legislator and complain that the taxpayers should have to pay for our decision.
Why are people now not responsible for their own decisions?
As a final thought, per the final paragraph of this long bill, the state will pay $1 million ($1,000,000) for the program manager’s “costs” for managing this bill. The definition of “program manager” does not exclude a legislator’s friends, donors, or family from receiving these funds.
