I want to welcome the Outdoor Retailer trade show back to Salt Lake City, but am disappointed some businesses were reluctant to participate – particularly the local companies, such as Black Diamond and Cotopaxi. They, as well as the others, certainly are correct about the Utah Legislature’s continuing disregard for our public lands. I am too, but they’re shooting the messenger!
Salt Lake City is an island of progressives in a sea of red – fully supporting the ideals of the Outdoor Retailers. Yet by boycotting this convention, the only ones impacted are the businesses (restaurants, bars, hotels, etc.) and their employees who support the same ideals.
It is indeed frustrating that the state legislatures are ignoring their (and our) concerns, but this is not the way to accomplish their goals.
