Letter: The natural version of the Legislature’s ‘pipeline from the Pacific Ocean’

(Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune) Snow falls on the whale sculpture "Out of the Blue" in Salt Lake City on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022.

I hope we all are being grateful for those prayers for relief from this drought and the drying up of the Great Salt Lake.

It appears to me that “Mother Nature” was receptive to those pleas. We are experiencing, in this deluge of rain and snow, the natural version of the Legislature’s “pipeline from the Pacific Ocean.”

It’s known meteorologically as an atmospheric river. It formed over the Ocean north of the Hawaiian Islands this past week and blew its way eastward, drenching the West Coast from San Jose to Vancouver, Canada. The part of it we are now enjoying is heading to Colorado and continuing eastward, giving us relief – at least for now – from our severe drought. Say “Thank you, Mother!”
