Letter: Ear-splitting noise pollution seems to be another sign of our MAGA times

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Highway traffic along the I-15 corridor on Friday Dec. 3, 2021.

In addition to exhaust pollution (“Curb motorcycle pollution,” Oct. 16), the noise caused by motorcycles, and other vehicles, mufflered to emit the most noise possible is equally obnoxious. Especially when accelerating from the lateral street where I live in Sandy onto the Little Cottonwood Rd. Motorcycle riders seem to use this same piece of highway in the early hours of the morning as a race track, with the accompanying ear-splitting roar.

At a neighborhood meeting attended by some Sandy City police officers I spoke of these concerns. I was informed that noise emission was no longer part of vehicle inspection.

As all of us living in the Salt Lake Valley are painfully aware traffic is becoming unbearable, as is driver behavior. A lack of respect for another person’s rights and common courtesy are lacking. It seems to me just another example of macho MAGA behavior.
