Letter: Shame on the Republican leaders who misinform the public without evidence of their claims

Several years ago, former Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner spoke the plain truth: “There is no Republican Party. There is a President Donald Trump Party.”

As the following headline indicates, the Republican Party, the supposed Party of Law and Order, remains headed by a scofflaw whose congressional henchmen are quite willing to swallow the scofflaw’s big lies and foment disorder (“Shooter attacks FBI in Cincinnati, then flees”).

Donald J. Trump and far too many of those Republicans who hold positions in the public trust are enemies of the truth. They spread mendacious propaganda or refuse to speak the truths which would counter Trump’s lies. They again and again violate their oaths of office. Instead of defending “the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic” they aid and abet domestic terrorists. They have thereby become the “enemies … domestic” that they are themselves sworn to oppose. By betraying their oaths, they have betrayed We the People.

Shame on the shameless Republican leaders who, like GOP House Leader Kevin McCarthy and Sen. Ted Cruz, misinform the public and without the least bit of evidence to support their claims, evoke the passions of the MAGA mob against the FBI and the Department of Justice. The mob they support and inflame includes many who are aggrieved, misinformed and highly weaponized. They know this to be the case and yet continue to speak and act in the most irresponsible and reckless manner.
