Letter: Who would want to bring a child into this world with the Republican leaders’ anti-human policies?

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Utah representatives from left, Blake Moore, Chris Stewart, Senators Mike Lee and Mitt Romney and Rep. Burgess Owens take the stage before delegates attending the Utah Republican Party’s 2021 Organizing Convention at the Maverik Center in West Valley City on Saturday, May 1, 2021.

Not long ago Mitt Romney and other Republican leaders were lamenting the fact that younger generations were putting off having children or not having any at all. They were wondering what could be done to encourage them to have children. It’s just stunning that they haven’t come to the conclusion that it might be a direct result of their policies.

It’s their denial of climate change, their attacks on education and teachers, their anti-women’s rights policies, the anti-voting laws that are being passed, putting corporations over people, and their constant fight against health care for all.

Probably, now the most pressing issue is protecting our children with effective gun control laws. I’m sure we’ll get all sorts of speeches and them sending thoughts and prayers. But in the end they won’t do anything!

They’re more concerned with kids wearing masks, what books they’re reading and banning trans kids from playing sports. Who would want to bring a child into this world with the Republican leaders in charge and their anti- human policies?

What good is the GOP? What is their platform? What do they intend to do to the citizens of this state and the nation?

They don’t care about us!

Karl Pettigrew, Logan
