In responding to the explosive story about multiple LDS Church leaders and priesthood-holders neglecting to report the sexual abuse of two children — including a six-week-old girl— for seven years, the church issued a statement saying, “The help line is instrumental in ensuring that all legal requirements for reporting are met.”
The correct answer is, “The help line is instrumental in ensuring that children who are being abused in any way receive the help they need and are rescued from their perpetrators. It is the responsibility of every adult to protect children and report the abuse of children. We grievously failed these two girls, we are heartbroken, and we will do all we can to make it right—including changing our policies and lobbying lawmakers to mandate that ecclesiastical leaders report all instances of child abuse.”
There. Fixed it for you.
