Letter: Health-related restrictions must remain in place until the pandemic is over

(Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune) People gather as the Salt Lake County Council holds a brief meeting on the mask mandate, in Salt Lake City on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022.

In regards to the COVID-19 pandemic, I would like to offer my thoughts upon its solution.

This is what has been happening. COVID cases go on the rise. Health-related restrictions are put into place. COVID cases start going down. Health-related restrictions are removed. There is a surge in COVID cases. Health-related restrictions are put into place. COVID cases start going down. Health-related restrictions are removed. There is a surge in COVID cases. Health-related restrictions are put into place. COVID cases start going down. Health-related restrictions are removed. There is a surge in COVID cases.

This is what is happening. You take a long road trip. When you get to the off-ramp, you take your seat belts off. Then you get in an accident with your belts off. You get injured or killed. Everyone is mystified as to why you got injured or killed.

COVID cases go down because health-related restrictions have been implemented. The restrictions must remain in place until the pandemic is over.

I am sorry that so many people are so horribly inconvenienced by health-related restrictions. Please feel free to whine about them, ignore them, and keep the pandemic going.
