I cannot believe what is being planned for Mill Creek Canyon! Melanie Topham’s commentary in The Salt Lake Tribune said it all. I have biked, skied, hiked the road in snow shoes and walked the upper portion of Mill Creek Canyon road for the most part of 40 plus years; and I still remember the smell of bacon frying at the lower campgrounds as I biked by.
My friend Anthony Quinn, a lawyer, was struck and killed by a distracted driver while biking up the lower road.
The upper road has always been so nice. The few motorists who drove to hike, mountain bike or just to visit the other upper canyon areas were always kind and never honked or drove fast. They appreciated what we have: a beautiful place for enjoying the outdoors and one that is definitely needed near Salt Lake City.
If this change is made, Mill Creek Canyon will never be the same, and I for one, along with almost all cyclists, hikers and others seeking recreational activities won’t even go up there.
Preserve it. Look around. Salt Lake is becoming a huge apartment complex on every vacant lot. Save this open space. Wow! I said it. A road that is open space! Please!
