Letter: GOP will regroup — and Trump Republicans will become a splinter party

(Cooper Neill | The New York Times) Cruz Majeno and Duane Schwingel pose for a photo with a cardboard cutout of former President Donald Trump, at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Dallas on Saturday, July 10, 2021.

It is time for everyday Republicans to decide which side of the Republican Party they are going to join. On the extreme right-wing you have former President Donald Trump, Mike Lee, Sean Reyes, Chris Stewart, Burgess Owens, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Gregg Hughes, Kevin McCarthy and Rudy Giuliani.

On the other side you have the traditional and moderate conservatives of Mitt Romney, Spencer Cox, Jon Huntsman, Jon Curtis, Becky Edwards, Liz and Dick Cheney, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski.

This political observer predicts that the Donald Trump Republicans will be a splinter party, with about 15% of registered Republicans. The mainstream traditional Republicans will regroup and be supported by 84% of Republicans. If Donald Trump runs for president in 2024, I predict he will not even receive the Republican nomination.

The choice is yours.
