Letter: Banned books, internet savvy and “groomers”

(Jeremy Harmon | The Salt Lake Tribune) A "read banned books" sign on the wall at Ken Sanders Rare Books in Salt Lake City on January 16, 2020.

I am amazed by all the interest in banning school library books.

My amazement is that someone has actually seen a teenager reading a book. All of them I see are staring at their phones. The same phones that — through using the internet — they could read any proposed banned book, (not to mention much “worse” things, like porn).

Oh right, there are parental screens that a teen and their “techy” friends could never figure out how to break.

As to younger 1-5 grades, I would like someone to name one “groomer.”

All the teachers I had, my kids had, and my granddaughter has are very nice people. They were all incredibly busy trying to control and then teach 30-40 kids in a class. The only grooming that ever occurred was tying shoes and pulling fingers from young noses.

P.S. I am glad these concerned parents will be elected to school boards; as I know they will then be glad to fill in when the school does not have enough bus drivers, lunch servers and janitors.
