After watching the first day of hearings for Ketanji Brown Jackson (KBJ), I was struck by how much we had to “hear” about the Republican senators’ grievances and feelings of victimization. The parallel to Putin’s cries of victimization and airings of grievances to justify his aggressiveness was ever so stark and frightening. The Republican senators’ attempts at moral equivalency were ludicrous and fell flat.
On the other hand, the brightest light in the room was KBJ herself. She masterfully displayed her extraordinary grasp of the law; she was poised and calm; she displayed her intelligence and reasoning over and over again; she stood out as exactly the type of justice we need on the Supreme Court. KBJ stands for what is meant by “law and order.” She stands in stark contrast to the Trumpian wing of the Republican Party which supports insurrection, anarchy, autocracy and softness on crimes against the government.
What an absolute delight to experience the reasoned, brilliant mind and warm personality of Ketanji Brown Jackson. Americans are truly lucky that we will have her on the Supreme Court.
