Letter: Kudos to councilmembers Laurie Stringham and Aimee Winder Newton for standing up for mask mandate

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Eleanor Sundwall and her daughter Matilda, 11, supporting the recently imposed mask mandate by the the Salt Lake County Health Department and Mayor Jenny Wilson, show up at the Salt Lake County Government Center on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022, to try and counteract those in opposition as the Salt Lake County Council takes another vote that ended up keeping the mandate in place.

Legislature votes to lift a county mask mandate to curb the spread of COVID, while infant hospitalizations explode.

Senate President Stuart Adams blatantly lies about his test status, and completely disregards protocol.

Two Salt Lake County Council members, Laurie Stringham and Aimee Winder Newton, who voted to uphold the county mask mandate safe-guard, are berated and scolded for their vote, by the Republican guard, in an effort to change it.

I have more than a few choice words for that Republican guard. Words so extremely harsh that if I listed them, my letter would not get printed. Instead, I’m sending both those ladies roses for their courage to stand up to those … (insert extremely-choice-harsh-word here).

I would encourage others to do so as well.

Peter A. Orum, Salt Lake City
