Thanks to The Salt Lake Tribune for recognizing the Great Salt Lake as Utahn of the year.
Utah government has the power and duty to reign in “the water conservancy districts” that focus on building ever more infrastructure for faster delivery from the infamous supply chain crisis. Great Salt Lake and its wetlands need action now, to save not only the lake but our regional economy. Our governor and local politicians are willing to budget millions of dollars to study and research the Great Salt Lake. Unfortunately, by the time they finish their research; warehouses, parking lots, and transloading facilities will have filled in many of those wetlands if the Utah Inland Port Authority has any say in the matter. Brad Wilson, the speaker of the House has convened a summit on Jan. 5 to discuss his constituent in District 15, the Great Salt Lake.
We need action from our government right now to conserve as much of this iconic lake and its wetlands in a time of such climatic uncertainty. Birds, water, wetlands and clean air for the population of this valley are so much more important than diverting the Bear River for another dam. Do not let elected officials’ greed create a dust bowl disaster in your backyard. This is preventable if we act now. Sign petitions and protest as if your grandchildren’s lives depended on it, because they do.
