Letter: Inspired by my representative’s FAUCI Act, I propose the STEWART Act

(Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune) Rep. Chris Stewart during a visit at Glendale Middle School in Salt Lake City on Wednesday, May 5, 2021.

Rep. Chris Stewart (who, sadly, is still my representative thanks to the Gerryslature’s disregard for Utah citizens’ preference for reasonable and fair redistricting) is proposing legislation he’s named the FAUCI Act to mock our nation’s top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci.

May I propose another new law, designated the STEWART Act: Stop The Exceptionally Weird Actions of Representatives Today? It would penalize the egregious, unprofessional stunts that Stewart and his far-right colleagues like Lauren Boebert, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Paul Gosar and others of what, if things continue as they are, we may have to start calling the GOPPFC: the Republican Proto-Fascist Caucus.

They seem to have abandoned all traditions of decorum and decency that used to prevail in Congress and are indulging in activities that previously would have resulted in censure or expulsion. It’s time to muzzle these unhinged bad actors and thwart their ultimate goal of unconstitutionally reinstalling their mango-tinted fuhrer.
