Letter: Rep. Steward has nothing to offer but a “Potemkin Village” war against Dr. Fauci

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Rep. Chris Stewart speaks with delegates during the Utah Republican Party’s 2021 Organizing Convention at the Maverik Center in West Valley City on Saturday, May 1, 2021.

It’s becoming very clear that Rep. Chris Stewart is running scared these days, with the 2022 election cycle coming up. Instead of focusing on anything that might eventually help his constituents in the 2nd Congressional District, he chooses to wage a “Potemkin Village” war against Dr. Anthony Fauci to cover the fact that he is doing nothing and has done nothing to better the lives of those he represents back in Utah.

Stirring up hatred against a dedicated medical professional who has only worked to mitigate the disastrous effects of the coronavirus and saved thousands of lives in the process, diverts attention from the real issue at hand.

Stewart has fed at the federal trough long enough. He has been little more than a subservient puppet for Donald Trump and a lap dog for the extremist right wing of what remains of the Republican Party.

If Stewart is the best person to represent the vast area of Utah’s 2nd District, we have clearly scrubbed the bottom of the barrel to send someone to Washington. He has chosen not to lead, but only to follow, and now it’s time for him to get out of the way.
