Letter: Giving legitimacy to superstition makes for pointless vaccination analysis

(Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune) Bailey Weems prepares doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine during a free COVID-19 clinic at Red Iguana 2 in Salt Lake City on Friday, Aug. 13, 2021.

The Salt Lake County Bureau of Population, Health and Informatics used anonymized birth dates from the county’s COVID vaccination data to analyze vaccination rates by zodiac sign. The rationale: “a fun conversation starter to promote vaccinations.” (Oct. 23, The Tribune). Surely there are more pressing epidemiological studies to conduct than one giving government legitimacy to a supernatural superstition.
