Letter: Utah’s Board of Health makes decisions regarding the pandemic. Here’s what should happen next.

(Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune) Gov. Spencer Cox speaks at his monthly news conference in Salt Lake City on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021.

The Salt Lake Tribune had a very long article in the Sept. 26 paper trying to explain the insufficiency of Utah’s governmental response to the pandemic: There were questions about who should make the decisions; lack of trust clouded the issue; the Health Department was underfunded and understaffed; disinformation and politics obscured the realities of the problem.

Let me clarify things. The state Board of Health has medical experts who are responsible for analysing the dangers of a pandemic and making decisions about how best to prevent its spread and treat it. The state executive branch has the responsibility of executing these decisions fully. The word “execute” means putting decisions into action.

Is this really very hard to understand? It’s called “government.”
