Letter: The state of Utah doesn’t care about those dying of COVID-19

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) In coordination with a proclamation from President Biden, Gov. Spencer Cox orders the lowering of the flag as it flies at half-staff on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021 at the Utah Capitol in memory of the grim milestone reached of 500,000 American lives lost to COVID-19.

Here in Utah we have a state ceremony for a soldier that was killed in Afghanistan by a suicide bomber. Well deserved. Over the past week we have averaged nine deaths a day due to Covid-19. The state does nothing. Many of these deaths are preventable by requiring masks and vaccines. The state of Utah has decided that it doesn’t care about the welfare of the population and has chosen to let them die. It’s time to just let the flag fly at half staff until those running the state start to care about its citizens.
