I learned to ski at Alta each Saturday with the Alf Engen Ski School when several buses full of kids left the Cottonwood Club in Holliday.
Back then lift tickets were $5 for a day or you could buy a 10-ride punch. So if you only wanted to take five runs and go home to watch NFL Football you could. Those days are long gone and now my beloved Cottonwood Canyons are filled with vehicles, the pollution they create and way too many people.
There is another option for the canyons other than buses or a gondola. Alta and Snowbird need to limit the number of skiers and riders who can use their respective resorts each day. Skiing and riding would be safer and more fun with less people, and our canyons would benefit from a manageable number of vehicles.
Overpopulation has consequences, and one of those is that you have to plan your fun and recreation in order for it to be more enjoyable with less people.
