Letter: Inland port sends a message to the rest of us

(Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune) Chelsie Kemper at a rally against the Inland Port at the state Capitol in Salt Lake City on Monday, Feb. 3, 2020.

So, in addition to massively adding lethal poison to the Salt Lake Valley’s airshed (not to mention the attendant and predictably infuriating/dangerous traffic congestion), the inland port will play a leading role in further depleting Utah’s perilously limited water supply.

No doubt, the wantonly greedy inland port promoters subscribe to Gordon Gekko’s “Greed is Good” life philosophy. The message to the rest of Salt Lake Valley’s residents?

“Your catastrophically degraded living environment is but a trifle compared with the vast riches awaiting the entitled, wealthy interests invested in the port.

“If valley residents would rather enjoy a cleaner, more sustainable environment (virtually all citizen comments lodged at board meetings, many by health and environmental experts, are stridently in opposition), well, they aren’t the ones calling the shots here.

“Install Inland Port Authority Board members with the temerity to raise questions about potential negative impacts on their communities? Hah! We’ll just remove them and silence their silly, anti-progress carping. Suck it up, buttercups!”
