Letter: Omission of disabled student from cheerleading photo was cruel

(Shoreline Junior High School) These photos show two versions of a cheerleading group photo; one that included a student with Down Syndrome, and another that excluded her and was used in the yearbook.

The article in the June 17 Tribune about Shoreline Junior High in Davis District brought me to tears. It’s hard to believe that a school in this day and age could be so unforgivably cruel to one of its students -- deliberately publishing a photo that excluded a disabled student from the cheerleading squad. This discriminatory action by the school officials should not go unpunished. If there is anything to be learned at that school, it should be about acceptance of our fellow human beings.
