Letter: BYU is moving away from education and toward inculcation

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Statue of Brigham Young on the BYU campus in Provo, Friday, Dec. 7, 2018.

Peggy. F. Stack’s article about BYU rejecting teachers of religion who do not come from the LDS church system is really nothing different, only worsened.

Why did the foremost university honor society Phi Beta Kappa decline BYU’s request for a chapter three times? The main reason given is the university’s lack of academic freedom.

Unfortunately, my alma mater seems to be withdrawing even more from genuine education (“educare — to draw out” ) and fully embracing inculcation (“inculcare — to trample in”).
