When I go for a walk or drive around the St. George area, I am disgusted by the egregious disregard for nature. The arrogance of Utahns in their blatant wastefulness of water is morally reprehensible. Fully one-half of the plants could be removed and the landscaping would still be pleasant. By removing half the existing vegetation, and not planting as much in the future, the cities of St. George, Washington City, Ivins, Santa Clara and its residents could save tens of thousands of gallons of water each day. During the summer months, when most people water every day, eliminating half the water-sucking plants could conserve enough water to preempt any thought of spending billions of tax and future water-rate dollars for a pipeline to a shrinking Lake Powell.
