Letter: Billboards need to be regulated with safety and beauty in mind

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Billboards are stacked along the 600 South offramp from I-15 in Salt Lake City on Tuesday, March 13, 2018.

Never in all my travels in the U.S. have I seen so many billboards signs along freeways and city streets as we have in beautiful Utah.  As it stands now, the billboard signs on our highways are visually polluting and inhibit a driver from seeing important highway signs.

Now there’s a bill to make billboards more obnoxious.  I think there should be a law that billboard signs be spaced at least a mile away from any other billboard sign, that the size and lights be regulated to not be a distraction to drivers and surrounding homes. Let’s find a way to keep our state beautiful as well as profitable for business.
