Letter: People on probation shouldn’t be denied the right to drink

(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) The new state liquor and wine store in Saratoga Springs, on Monday, Nov. 16, 2020.

Why is it that every person who unfortunately gets put on state or federal probation is banned from drinking alcohol or frequenting establishments where alcohol is the chief item of sale?

Doing either of these things is normally perfectly legal. Alcohol is a legal drug and the government here is the wholesaler and retailer of some of it. They do this to people whether they have a drinking problem or not. This should not be a probation condition or a violation if you do so. To me this is  government violating “We the People’s” rights and we shouldn’t stand for it!
