Letter: Steward and Burgess could write a book on cowardice

The hard-fought race for a congressional swing district in Utah remained too early to call on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020, with just 18 votes separating the candidates and many left to count. In the mid-1950s,  John F. Kennedy wrote a Pulitzer Prize winning book, “Profiles in Courage,” which chronicled examples of grace under pressure.  Now, two of our Utah congressmen, Chris Stewart and Burgess Owens, could be included in “Profiles in Cowardice” for their joining the group of Republican representatives and senators who frivolously objected to one or more state certifications of Electoral College votes. For two months, they joined in The Big Lie— that Joe Biden did not fairly win the 2020 presidential election—and the foreseeable result of their actions was the attempted insurrection and takeover of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. If we are going to move forward and have a country based on the rule of law, they and all of their fellow congressional cowards should be held accountable for their shameful behavior. By their outrageous actions, they have disqualified themselves from serving in Congress.
