Letter: We need to act now or lose it all

(Oliver Contreras | The New York Times) President Donald Trump talks to reporters at the White House in Washington, Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, before boarding Marine One for a trip to Alamo, Texas, his first public appearance in nearly a week after his supporters violently attacked the U.S. Capitol in an effort to overturn election results. President Trump on Tuesday showed no contrition or regret for instigating the mob that stormed the Capitol and threatened the lives of members of Congress and his vice president, saying that his remarks to a rally beforehand were "totally appropriate" and that the effort by Congress to impeach and convict him was "causing tremendous anger."

It’s insane when you think about it. Our president, along with his Republican sycophants, allowed a mob of his violent, Nazi, racist, white supremacist supporters to storm and break into our Capitol building with the intention of overthrowing our government and we are debating whether or not we should impeach. Hmmm … let me think. Yes! Of course we should impeach! If we do not hold Trump, his Republican supporters and his rabid, violent followers accountable, we may as well just face the facts that we are truly a Banana Republic and this is no longer the United States of America. We are sitting on the edge of a precipice here. We need to act now or lose it all to the fascist clowns.
