I keep reading with great sadness about the tearing apart of the homeless encampments in our city. They have nowhere else to go and many of them choose to live outside rather than staying in shelters where they could conceivably catch the virus.
Several years ago, I believe it was former Salt Lake County Sheriff Jim Winder who suggested providing a space in the city limits for the homeless to camp. I’m sure the city owns vacant properties and could easily fence the area to provide a measure of security and give them a place to congregate and live. The city should provide portable sanitary stations and services to the homeless.
