Letter: Kanab’s COVID-spreading party

Here in quirky Kanab, we have a strange way to bring on the new year. Our Office of Tourism is promoting a gala COVID-spreading event. On Dec. 31, we are all invited to put on “Hollywood glam,” then crowd into a room with 199 other people to eat, dance and risk getting the virus. What better way to cap off a momentous year of suffering and death?

Apparently our local government just doesn’t think we have had enough of the pandemic in our little town. Actually, this is simply an extension of the head-in-the-sand approach our local leaders have employed to deal with this devastating pandemic. Anyone with a brain who wants to run for local office, please hurry up and move to Kanab.

Sky Chaney, President, Taxpayer Association of Kane County

Support free news for Utah

sltrib.com is now free to access — no subscription required. We made this decision because we believe access to trustworthy, independent news shouldn’t depend on what you can afford — especially as misinformation and AI-generated content continue to rise.

Free to read doesn’t mean free to produce. Our reporters show up every day to ask hard questions and hold powerful institutions to account. That work takes resources.
