Letter: Sacrifice for the greater good

When did we become a nation of spoiled brats who can no longer sacrifice for the common good? We fought and won World War II and every American sacrificed — those who served in the armed forces, as well as everyone on the home front who endured rationing, blackouts and the loss of so many loved ones. We fought the Forgotten War in Korea, and the Vietnam War (a war all of us who lived through that era would like to forget).

Now, when people are asked not to travel for the Thanksgiving holiday or to wear masks in public or not to congregate, the answer of so many of our fellow Americans is, “Why should I sacrifice for the well-being of others?” Are we really that selfish? I wonder.
