Letter: Why attack just the mares?

(Chris Detrick | Tribune file photo) Wild horses from Utah’s Swasey herd are rounded up by Cattoor Livestock Roundup Co in the West Desert near the Swasey Mountains on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013.

I am appalled at the inhumanity of the Bureau of Land Management subjecting wild female horses to so-called surgical sterilization.

If it must be done (and I am not convinced that it is), there are better ways to accomplish minimizing the population.

Instead of attacking the mares, how about doing the males? This can be done more easily, quickly, safely and more cheaply.

Or does this offend their male sense of machismo?
