Letter: It’s time for congressional term limits

(J. Scott Applewhite | AP file photo) In this April 12, 2019, file photo, morning clouds cover Capitol Hill in Washington.

In the past few months, many of my friends and family, regardless of their political views, have advocated for term limits in Congress. The reason we have a term limit for the presidency is that being in power too long often leads to misuse of that power. Why then haven’t we passed legislation limiting terms for Congress? Because the very people who have to pass that law are the ones we want term limits for.

Are they likely to want to limit their own term? Probably not, unless “we the people” demand it from them. We all need to send emails or letters to our own senators and representatives demanding they pass term limits or we will vote them out of office anyway. This is the only way the American people can be assured that there is no abuse of power in our government. I urge all of you to begin this process by flooding our elected officials with mail demanding term limits. America is the greatest country on earth; let’s keep it that way. God bless America.
