The Republican Party of Utah is outraged because the Democratic Party “unfairly” blamed them for the sales tax increase on food. I would like to remind the Republican Party of Utah that not one piece of legislation can be passed in this great state without Republican support. Therefore, their supermajority in Utah is responsible for passing the sales tax increase. Only in a post-truth Trumpian society can this type of reasoning make sense to anyone. The Democrats grabbed the Republicans by their supermajority and held them up for the hypocrites they truly are.

sltrib.com is now free to access — no subscription required. We made this decision because we believe access to trustworthy, independent news shouldn’t depend on what you can afford — especially as misinformation and AI-generated content continue to rise.

Free to read doesn’t mean free to produce. Our reporters show up every day to ask hard questions and hold powerful institutions to account. That work takes resources.
