Having twice visited the new Salt Lake City International Airport, I would like to make some observations. I am not impressed. It is not San Diego; it is not Denver; it is not Boise.
The lay-in ceilings, the long walks and the monochrome terrazzo floors and walls resemble a large Utah high school more than a Utah premier gateway.
$4 billion could have and should have been better spent showcasing Utah, and our politicians reward their benefactors and friends with these large public building contracts. Enlightened states require a competition process with spectacular results.
This new airport is no Symphony Hall, and we are going to have to live with this banality just like we had to live with the old one — which at least had mountain views and color — for many many years.
