I read today that Brigham Young University is still trying to play football this fall, whereas the rest of Utah’s teams belong to conferences that have wisely cancelled or postponed seasons due to COVID.

However, the present circumstances lead me to wonder where the consideration is for student athlete health and safety surrounding chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE)? Studies have indicated that around 90% of the autopsied brains of former college football players exhibited CTE. If you are a college football player you might get COVID, but you will probably get CTE.

So, when are all institutions of higher learning going to finally do the right thing and cancel football entirely? After all, universities are supposed to act in the best interests of students (in loco parentis), but that seems to have gone out of fashion.
