In my 92 years, I’ve lived through the Great Depression, the polio scare, World War II, Korea and Vietnam. I always had faith that we’d make it through.
Now. I’m worried. Our president, who has been very vocal in his distrust of mail-in balloting, is using his executive power to cripple the United States Postal Service. Our Senate and Congress, regardless of party, must step in to stop this abuse of power.

sltrib.com is now free to access — no subscription required. We made this decision because we believe access to trustworthy, independent news shouldn’t depend on what you can afford — especially as misinformation and AI-generated content continue to rise.
Free to read doesn’t mean free to produce. Our reporters show up every day to ask hard questions and hold powerful institutions to account. That work takes resources.
